The Oil Change Question: How Often Should You Really Change Your Oil?

How often do I really need to change my oil? It's a question that's been debated for decades, and the answer is pretty straightforward.
For some engines it's still the 3,000 mile rule for others the standard is now 5,000 miles. Some manufacturers are recommending even longer intervals but we have found that when you stretch your oil changes longer than that then engine damage and failure can occur.
The standard recommendation is to change your engine oil every 3,000 miles (or every 3 months). This is still a good rule for engines that do not take full synthetic engine oil. If your engine takes full synthetic engine oil then the recommendation goes to 5,000 miles (or every 5 months).
Difference comes down to the type of oil that your engine takes.
- Synthetic oils are designed to last longer and provide better protection against wear and tear. These are the ones that can go 5,000 between oil changes.
- Synthetic Blends: These oils offer a balance between conventional and synthetic. We recommend a 3,000 mile oil change with this oil.
- Lubrication: Oil lubricates the engine's moving parts, reducing friction and wear.
- Cooling: Oil helps to dissipate heat from the engine.
- Cleaning: Oil helps to remove dirt, debris, and contaminants from the engine
- Protection: Oil helps to prevent corrosion and oxidation.
Don't Forget the Oil Filter: It's crucial to change your oil filter every time you change your oil. A dirty oil filter can restrict oil flow and reduce the effectiveness of your new oil.
